Bobbing-head Turtles

These I made especially for the bobbing-head effect.  The large one’s head moves from side to side in slow motion which gives it an eerie effect.  Of course there needs to be some air or touch to cause the movement.  The big one was made with a maranka gourd and the head is a sandwich of a small banana gourd with a wooden underside.  The small one is part of a small gourd and the head is half of a mini gourd with a wooden underside.  The bobbing action is very good with the counterweights on the opposite sides of the heads.  The longer the head assembly, the slower the motion and the slower motion makes it compatible with the slowness of a turtle. Most who have seen it remark about the maranka gourd being very suitable for a turtle shell.
